Money, Ministers and Ministry
Well, seeing the title of this book, someone might ask, ‘another book on Money? Yes!’. I am writing this book due to the heavy burden and promptings of the Holy Spirit of God in my heart. On one hand, many pastors and Christian leaders have written and published books on finance, wealth creation, how to be a millionaire and material prosperity in the last few years. Some are even holding seminars on finance, money, investment and wealth creation on regular basis, both on the radio and television. However, majority of their teachings are lopsided and tended only to materialism, gain and profit, with the exception of very few of them.On the other hand, you find imbalance practices in the body of Christ. The holiness movement of the 50’s, 60’s, 70’s and early 80’s went to the extreme by glorifying poverty, penury, poor dressing, deprivation of good things of life and demonizing little luxury and pleasure. A certain world-acclaimed preacher recently had his glass tainted church building sold so as to recover the ministry from the depth of bankruptcy. The Church Board even sued the preacher and his family claiming that the 10 years the church filed for bankruptcy was not even enough to deter them from drawing huge and fantastic salaries and emoluments from the church purse. The church was eventually run aground financially until the world-acclaimed building had to be sold off to an orthodox church. This preacher was labeled as ‘The Preacher without the gospel’ as a result of his penchant for money, commercialization and mercantile spirit in the pulpit. As a result of poor and untoward handling of money in the ministry, a world acclaimed work has taken a serious nose-dive and gone into oblivion. The above true story is just one of the tens of thousands of cases of wrong handling of money in the personal and ministry life of Christians today. Yes, this is my third book on money and I have also held many conferences on the subject. What I have found out is that lots of Christians and leaders have been running away from hardcore, Biblical and balanced teaching on money and I’m yet to understand why this is so.
